Tea Time

In my last post I showed you the bouquet I helped my husband's grandmother make for a bridal shower. His aunt was put in charge of the fruit for the shower and also wanted a little help. She knew she wanted something made with watermelons but left me in charge of finding a design. I searched the internet and fell in love with a teapot design.

To make a tea pot you need to cut your watermelon in half and then scoop out all of the fruit just like you would if you were gutting a pumpkin. Cut one of halves into thirds to create two rings and a lid for your pot. Place the half of the melon you didn't cut into one of the rings and secure it with tooth picks. Slice the remaining ring in half, bend one of the halves into a handle and attach it to the melon with tooth picks. Attach the other half of the ring to the melon to look like a spout. I used a flower shaped fondant cutter to cut a flower out of fruit I removed from the rind and used a melon baller to create a round nob. I attached these two things to the lid with a tooth pick. We chose to ball all of the melon but you can just cut it into bite size pieces if you prefer. Add a bag of mixed fruit to your bowl of balled melon and then scoop it into your melon, make sure it's piled as full as you can get it and then place the lid on top. We made these the day before the shower and left the empty melons in the fridge over night so that they would keep the fruit cold during the shower.
